Survey of Western Art I Museum Paper
Assignment: Choose a work of art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art* from one of the following areas: Egyptian, Near Eastern, Greek, Roman or Medieval
Write an essay discussing your chosen artwork in terms of both its form and content (meaning). Include discussion of its historical and cultural context, as well as your own personal reactions. Refer to A Short Guide to Writing About Art and Gardner’s Art Through the Ages.
Paper should be 4 to 6 numbered pages, double-spaced with 1-inch margins. No bibliography or footnotes. Please, include an illustration of the work you choose.

*The Met is located at 5th Avenue and 82nd Street. Please, note that you do not have to pay to go into the museum. There is a suggested donation, but you are welcome to give whatever you like. Showing a student ID helps.
